In what follows, we consider only non-parametric computer based learning methods, sufficiently powerful to treat the wide variety of practical security problems. An accessible description of these kind of methods and a discussion of their practical uses are given in [4]. An extensive and systematic comparative study of a larger number of algorithms, including parametric ones, is provided in [3].
